Description: In this class, students will learn: 

  • The safety and basics of turning  
  • Lathe components and turning tools
  • Tool sharpening and use 
  • How to perform the basic cuts on spindles: V-groove, coves and beads

The class concludes with the student making a tool handle, including the application of a ferrule and a finish.  This class will help prepare you to get the certification necessary to use the shop lathes.

Level: Beginner

Prerequisites: Age >18

Format: 2 sessions, 8 hours total (Please note: due to the limitations of Punchpass, the second class appears 5 hours long. It is only 3 hours).

Project you will make: Honey dipper

Cost: $185 and $35 SDFWA membership.
