This class allows students who participated in SDFWA’s Introduction to Woodworking class to continue building skills and developing independence as a woodworker.  In this class, you will build a Shaker-style end table using mortise and tenon machine joinery.  


While working on their projects, students will:

  • Demonstrate the consistent use of safety protocols
  • Describe effective practices for buying wood (an optional “field trip” to TH&H will be offered outside of class time)
  • Learn mortise and tenon machine joinery
  • Demonstrate resawing, leg tapering, and router use
  • Investigate jigs used in the shop
  • Practice finishing techniques 


Class Schedule: Six, four-hour sessions

Prerequisites: Introduction to Woodworking or instructor consent


Membership RequirementsFor insurance purposes, this class requires membership in the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association.  Annual dues are $35.  If you are not already a member, please join here.  For insurance reasons, all SDFWA classes require students to be at least 18 years old.


Cost: $500

Refund policy:

  1. Up to two weeks notice: Full refund
  2. Up to one week notice: 50% refund or credit
  3. Less than one week notice or failure to appear: No refund or credit
  4. Class canceled: Full refund

If a class does not have an adequate number of registered students one week prior to the posted start date, the class may be canceled.
