This course is designed for students interested in developing their skills in hand tool woodworking. The course will be a mentorship experience where students study topics of their own interest under the guidance of two instructors. Our goal is to build a cadre of hand tool woodworkers who can assist future students in handtool mentoring relationships. By participating in the class, students will:
Note: The following tools are required to participate in the course: combination square; double square; saddle square; marking knife; chisels: 1⁄4, 3/8,1/2, 3⁄4; block plane (low angle block plane preferred); #4 or #5 plane; Japanese Dozuki saw or English backsaw. The instructors would be happy to guide students if they wish to purchase new tools. If you have questions about tools, please contact the instructor for more information.
Class Schedule: Six four-hour sessions
Prerequisites: Minimum of one year of woodworking experience
Membership Requirements: For insurance purposes, this class requires membership in the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association. Annual dues are $35. If you are not already a member, please join here. For insurance reasons, all SDFWA classes require students to be at least 18 years old.
