Introduction to Woodworking is a 14-hour course spread over one 2-hour lecture and three 4-hour hands-on sessions in the shop. The class is usually scheduled for a in person safety and information lecture on Friday evening and then three consecutive 4-hour Sunday morning sessions.

The course fee covers material, equipment, instruction and a 1-year membership to the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association (SDFWA). The fee does not include shop membership, all though students are highly encouraged and incentivized to join. Make up classes and shop sessions are not available. We do not offer refunds for this class or the SDFWA membership.

The student will learn the basics of woodworking beginning with what wood is, how it's structure dictates the process of woodworking, how wood movement affects design and construction and how to process, join, assemble and finish components of a woodworking project.

Students will use a wide variety of both hand and power tools to complete at least two separate projects designed to give them the widest possible exposure to all facets of woodworking.

No previous woodworking experience is required.
