Box-making is a fun woodworking skill that provides a great opportunity for individual design creativity. Plus, decorative boxes make great gifts!  Box-making serves as an entry point to making decorative trays, drawers, and other precision multi-sided structures.  This course is for woodworkers of any level who wish to learn how to make a splined, miter-cornered box from milling, through box assembly and finishing.


Learning Objectives:
  • 1.     Learn a nine-step process to make a simple decorative box.
  • 2.     Practice making miter cuts and routing grooves.
  • 3.     Demonstrate box glue-up assembly.
  • 4.     Learn techniques for continuous grain matching and hinged-lid boxes.
  • 5.     Complete one box from milling through finishing.
Level:Beginner
Prerequisites: Age 18+; Introduction to Woodworking A or equivalent
Format: 1 session, 5 hours
Cost: $100 and $35 SDFWA membership

Membership Requirements: For insurance purposes, this class requires membership in the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association. Annual dues are $35. If you are not already a member, please join hereFor insurance reasons, all SDFWA classes require students to be at least 18 years old.

Refund policy: Up to two weeks notice: Full Refund; Up to one week notice: 50% refund; Less than one week notice or failure to appear: No refund or credit; Class canceled: Full refund or credit

If a class does not have an adequate number of registered students one week prior to the posted start date, the class may be canceled
