This course is designed to introduce new woodworkers to the tools and techniques in measuring and marking wood in preparation for hand or machine tool use with accuracy to 1/16 of an inch. This will be a one-session, 3-hour course combining new learning and skills practice.
By taking this course, students will:
Describe the pros and cons of tools used in measuring and marking wood (aka layout): pencils, knives, rulers, tape measures, squares, compass, etc.
Describe the meaning of symbols and terminology used in woodworking plans;
Practice transferring woodworking plans onto wood;
Practice drawing angles, circles, and arcs onto wood.
