This course is designed to introduce new woodworkers to the tools and techniques in measuring and marking wood in preparation for hand or machine tool use with accuracy to 1/16 of an inch. This will be a one-session, 3-hour course combining new learning and skills practice.  


By taking this course, students will:

  1. Describe the pros and cons of tools used in measuring and marking wood (aka layout): pencils, knives, rulers, tape measures, squares, compass, etc. 
  2. Describe the meaning of symbols and terminology used in woodworking plans;
  3. Practice transferring woodworking plans onto wood;
  4. Practice drawing angles, circles, and arcs onto wood.


Class Schedule: One four-hour class

Membership RequirementsFor insurance purposes, this class requires membership in the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association.  Annual dues are $35.  If you are not already a member, please join https://sdfwa.org/memberships">here.  For insurance reasons, all SDFWA classes require students to be at least 18 years old.
